Boston Children’s Museum-Morning Star Access Program

Saturday November 16, 2019 from 6 pm to 8 pm – Evening Edition! Monday December 30, 2019 from 8 am to 10 am

The Morning star Access program offers children with special needs/medical needs the opportunity to visit the Museum at a time when there are only a few other visitors. At these times, we have a limit of 100 guests, and children and their families can explore the Museum with less concern about infections and large crowds. Preregistration is required!

“Especially for Me” Evening for Families with Autism Spectrum

Come join in all the fun and explore the accessible Discovery Museum and Discovery Woods during this special evening event just for families with members on the autism spectrum. Your family can play, explore, experiment, and imagine together, while we are closed to the general public and headcount is limited.Resources available to prepare for your visit include Story Guides (social stories) to the Museum and Discovery Woods, as well a Sensory Guide. These are available both online and at our Admissions Desk. You might also visit the Exhibits section of our website, and review our Tips for Visiting. Please note that Discovery Woods is open year-round, but closes at dusk and will not be open for evening events during the winter months.Dinner, including a gluten-free option, is provided courtesy of Not Your Average Joe’s, Acton. Sensory-Friendly Performance of The Nutcracker

Eleanor Welch Casey Theatre, 235 Wellesley Street, Weston, MA 

Our performance of The Nutcracker on Friday, November 29th at 1:00 p.m. will be Family & Sensory Friendly. In this relaxed and welcoming setting the theatre lights will be left on a little, the music volume will be turned down, and some of the action on stage will be less intense. There will also be a “quiet zone” if anyone needs to relax for a few minutes. In addition, the performance will be shortened from its typical full length. All tickets for this show are $20 and $10 for age 5 and under – bring the family for a special night out!


Boston Pops Sensory Friendly Christmas Concert

The Boston Pops is pleased to offer a Holiday Pops sensory-friendly concert for the first time. The show is designed for all families with children or adults diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder or sensory sensitivities. The concert will be a shortened 60-minute version of our regular Holiday Pops concert, with a flexible, non-judgmental environment. Modifications will include relaxed house rules, reduced volume and lighting levels, extra space for movement, available noise-reduction headphones, designated quiet room and support spaces, modified food concessions, and credentialed autism therapist volunteers on site.

New England Aquarium- Sensory Inclusive Morning Access

Aquarium will open at 8 a.m. exclusively for people with special sensory processing needs and their families. The building opens to the public at 9 a.m., but building modifications will remain in place until 10 a.m. Sensory bags, which include fidget items, noise-canceling headphones, and other resources will be available to borrow at our Information Desk.

Join us on the 2nd Sunday of the month for sensory-friendly mornings at the USS Constitution Museum! Learn about the incredible history of America’s Ship of State in a quieter setting, without loud sounds or flashing lights, and before we open to the public at 10:00 AM. Design a ship, furl a sail, and scrub the decks in our hands-on exhibits that are designed for sailors of all abilities and backgrounds.

Cameron Drama Company is proud to present a sensory-friendly performance of Disney’s Frozen, Jr. for families with children and adults on the autism spectrum and other developmental disabilities. The musical is performed in a friendly, supportive environment with slight adjustments to the production, including the reduction of any jarring sounds or lights focused into the audience area. The cafeteria will be set up with a small, quiet and play area, if family members need to leave their seats during the performance. For these special performances, no-cost, limited seating is available to individuals and families with developmental disabilities. To get your free tickets to this show, please reserve tickets. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas- The Musical” Sensory-Friendly Performance

This sensory-friendly musical acrobat performance is for the entire family.The goal is to offer a guest experience that is welcoming, judgement free, and inclusive of guests on the autism spectrum, with other developmental or cognitive disabilities, or sensory sensitivities. These performances were created to foster a welcoming setting for these individuals and their families, and other guests who might benefit from a more relaxed theatrical environment.
